DENVER—Seventy-five percent of Americans have debt, and51 percent are worried about the balance they owe, finds a new poll from theNational Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE). The online poll,commissioned by NEFE and conducted by Harris Interactive in December 2011 among2,525 adults ages 18 and older, demonstrates the overall debt burden peopleacross the country are carrying(1). And although some debt-laden Americansmight continue with their current strategies to pay down debt in 2012, othersmay be feeling the crush of holiday credit card statements and multiple debtsor struggling to keep up with their current monthly loan payments.
For cash-strapped consumers, debt consolidation loansmight seem like a quick fix to solve their money woes. But they will want totread carefully, as new NEFE-supported research reveals ads for these loans donot give consumers a full picture of the total costs, and furthermore, theseloans may cause consumers to make their financial situations even worse.

Just in case you haven't noticed it (or were not aware of it) there is some major street work being done on Willow Avenue between Penrose and Sycamore.

I asked one of the residents what was going on and he told me that Willow Avenue was being widened to better accomodate the traffic in the area.

I still have yet to confirm this with the township though. But I did want to mention that I will miss some of the trees that were taken down to make way for this "improvement" and I'm specifically thinking about the Cherry Blossom tree that bloomed every April (or so) that was located near the corner of Willow and Cedar Lane

(oh and by the way, since I still see the mailbox in this picture I should also mention that I miss that too!

Question:  Why does the "Check if employer was contacted to verify W-2"  and "employer phone" turn red when I enter information on the W-2

Answer:  The field turns red based off of the amount of withholding entered compared to the Filing Status and amount of Wages entered in box 1.  If the amount exceeds the recommended percentages in IRS Publication 15 the check box and entry will turn red.

Answer:  Due to the heightened awareness of fraudulent returns being created in the industry, this is a precautionary measure that helps you identify potentially fraudulent W-2s.  Once you start entering information from employer issued W-2s, you should see fewer instances of this being marked as a required field.

Just in case you haven't noticed it (or were not aware of it) there is some major street work being done on Willow Avenue between Penrose and Sycamore.

I asked one of the residents what was going on and he told me that Willow Avenue was being widened to better accomodate the traffic in the area.

I still have yet to confirm this with the township though. But I did want to mention that I will miss some of the trees that were taken down to make way for this "improvement" and I'm specifically thinking about the Cherry Blossom tree that bloomed every April (or so) that was located near the corner of Willow and Cedar Lane

(oh and by the way, since I still see the mailbox in this picture I should also mention that I miss that too!

The online poll,commissioned by NEFE and conducted by Harris Interactive in December 2011 among2,525 adults ages 18 and older, demonstrates the overall debt burden peopleacross the country are carrying(1). And although some debt-laden Americansmight continue with their current strategies to pay down debt in 2012, othersmay be feeling the crush of holiday credit card statements and multiple debtsor struggling to keep up with their current monthly loan payments.
For cash-strapped consumers, debt consolidation loansmight seem like a quick fix to solve their money woes. But they will want totread carefully, as new NEFE-supported research reveals ads for these loans donot give consumers a full picture of the total costs, and furthermore, theseloans may cause consumers to make their financial situations even worse.

TaxWise 2012 -- Program Update (27.01)

We will be posting our first program update to the TaxWise Solution Center around 2:00 PM EST.   This is not a required update, but we recommend you download and install the update if you are planning to assign users to the new Preparer Group.

What is the purpose of the update?

• Changing the behavior of the rights associated with the Preparer Group.  The Preparer group is new for TaxWise 2012.  This update further restricts the limitations of this group.  The Preparer group will no longer have access to the Utility Program.  Users assigned to this group will have the ability to prepare returns, run diagnostics and print returns.  They will not have the ability to create electronic files or access the Utility program.
