IRS Reject: F1040-409 -- Update

To contact us Click HERE
The IRS issues a Quick Alert that they will put a solution in place for this business rule over the weekend.

Scenario:  The 1040 return with US Income where the taxpayer has an address in Puerto Rico is getting rejected for F1040-409.

Data on the tax return indicates that the filer is a bona fide resident of Puerto Rico with only Puerto Rico income and does not have a U. S. tax filing obligation.  However, if the filer has self-employment income from Puerto Rico and/or wishes to claim the Additional Child Tax Credit, they must do so on a Form 1040-PR or Form 1040-SS. Otherwise, they should file a return with the Departamento de Hacienda, PO Box 9022501, San Juan, PR 00902-2501

Solution:  IRS is investigating why their system is generating this reject under these conditions.  We recommend that you hold these returns until we get further clarification from the IRS.
